Meet Chad Spurlock – Heartfelt Radio Listener Engagement Specialist

Chad was born and raised in Wayne County, Ohio. He graduated from Smithville High School and immediately started in the workforce, not really having a clear direction of what he wanted to do in life. He always had a passion for connecting with people and a love for sports. Having a close bond with his mom, he would often have conversations with her about his passions and goals in life, and together they would pray for guidance and direction for Chad. At the age of 25, Chad’s world was turned upside down when his mom passed away from cancer. Not having her there was a real struggle and depression began to set in on Chad. He would cry out to God daily, “Why would you take my mother away, it’s not fair!” After a few months passed by, Chad realized he should not question God’s plan, he should instead be thankful for the time he had with her.

Psalm 121:1-2 “I lift up my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from: My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and earth.”

Later that year, things started to become clearer for Chad, realizing his passions and dreams in life. In 2001, he would meet and marry his wife, Renita, and start a family. He started attending college at The University of Akron, earning his bachelor’s degree in education in 2010. He taught social studies and coached high school basketball. Chad landed his dream job in 2013 when he was hired as the Athletic Director at Smithville High School (his alma mater). Chad grew a lot during this time in his relationship with the Lord and in the summer of 2019, six years of being an Athletic Director, Chad felt God telling him that it was time to make a career change and opened doors for him at Christian Healthcare Ministries.

After almost two years with Christian Healthcare Ministries, in May of 2021, Chad joined Heartfelt Radio as the station’s first Listener Engagement Specialist. He connects and builds relationships with potential donors, sponsors, and underwriters to grow revenue for WKJA.  He also meets with area church pastors, Christian schools and Christian counseling services.  Look on the Resources page of the Heartfelt Radio website to see directories for area churches Christian schools and counseling groups. Chad enjoys the opportunity this position gives him to meet others who also have a love for Christ.

Chad and Renita live in the Orrville/Smithville area with their three boys Knox, Reece & Rowan. They enjoy spending family time together going to sporting events, watching movies, playing games, and rooting for their beloved Michigan Wolverines and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.”
